Easy CUP: the System to Manage Connections Under Pressure

One of the intrinsic phenomena in hydraulic circuits used in many industries is the formation of pressure inside closed hydraulic circuits due to the increase in temperature of the surrounding environment. In fact, during a working day, the hydraulic circuits absorb heat, generated by the fluid inside them, from the active machinery and from the sunlight: but, except for extreme

conditions, this effect is considered when the system is designed and does not therefore hinder its correct operation.

However, the additional pressure is not disposed of and remains inside the pipe even when the machinery has been switched off and this causes problems when connecting or disconnecting the lines, since this pressure creates a thrust that, in turn, creates a resistance and prevents the operation from being performed.

In cases like these, it is possible to resort to special procedures to eliminate the residual pressure, but this takes time, which must be multiplied for each connection and disconnection operation during the day; in the case of earthmoving tools, these moments of machine downtime can become very frequent.

EFFICIENT CONNECT AND DISCONNECT UNDER PRESSURE WITH STUCCHI CUP TECHNOLOGY

To maintain machine operation and operator safety, Stucchi offers an efficient solution to connect and disconnect under pressure: Easy CUP technology.  Easy CUP technology (Connection Under
Pressure) allows for connections under pressure to be made easily and safety and it is compatible with a wide range of our couplings.

Its versatility makes it possible for it to be used in very different industries and fields of application, while always meeting customer’s needs. The following are available:

Flat face couplings: the “APM” male flat face quick coupling series allows for manual coupling with residual pressure in the circuit thanks to a triple valve system to discharge pressure and increase tightness;hydraulic quick disconnect couplers

Flat face screw couplings: the VEP-P, VEP-HD and VP-P series use special threaded rings that allow the quick coupling to withstand strong impulses and extreme conditions of use, by neutralizing premature wear and the brinelling effect; their strength and compactness is accompanied by a triple valve system which allows for connections under pressure;

Multi-couplings: the DP and GR series combine the lever system, which allows for several lines to be connected and disconnected quickly and without effort, with a triple valve for connections under pressure;

Monobloc: Saturn Block and Saturn Block HD allow to connect three and five lines and have been created in close collaboration with important earth moving companies to make them the ideal choice for machines with multifunction accessories; a special manual valve allows for the simultaneous discharge of the residual pressure of all the lines.

These solutions feature the best resources of Stucchi technology, integrating innovative and patented solutions: contact us for more information.

How to Efficiently Manage Harvester Attachments Thanks to Quick Couplings

Agricultural machinery needs to be highly versatile, considering the large number of varying tasks it needs to perform out on the field. Given these circumstances, the agricultural sector makes extensive use of interchangeable attachments, in order that a single machine can cover multiple tasks by simply replacing the equipment to which it is coupled.

In combine harvesters, for example, different types of detachable tools are used, which guarantee the machine’s versatility thanks to heads for specific types of crops, and which make it easier to move and transport.

Regardless of the selected attachment, its operation will depend on the hydraulic circuits powering the machinery, thus making it necessary to consider the easiest and fastest way of connecting and disconnecting the lines, an operation that often needs to be done several times per day.

The hydraulic quick coupling system therefore needs to guarantee a safe connection, but at the same time allow separation without causing problems while the machine is stopped, and without requiring the use of tools.

It is also important to evaluate the possibility of using couplings that allow connection in the presence of residual pressure, which is when an increase in the ambient temperature causes the oil pressure in the hydraulic circuit to rise. The agricultural sector is also particularly sensitive to the theme of contamination, both inbound (air, dirt, debris, water, …), and outbound: oil leaks can contaminate the soil, which is a farmer’s most important resource. The couplings therefore need to be equipped with sealing systems able to minimize both risks.

There is only one solution to all these needs: Stucchi flat face couplings, able to satisfy all needs of the agricultural sector, and in particular, of combine harvester implements.

The design of the Stucchi flat face valve in fact reduces contact between the internal circuit and external environment to a minimum, during both connection and disconnection, thus protecting them against contamination.

Flat face quick couplings can be connected and disconnected quickly, and without the aid of tools; even in the case of residual pressure, the valves and pressure relief systems designed by Stucchi allow operation to continue without delays.

In the case of multiple lines, as is often the case in combine harvesters, multi-coupling systems are available, which allow the simultaneous coupling and decoupling of all lines with a single gesture, while also eliminating the risk of dangerous crossovers between the lines.

All these factors make it possible to work more efficiently and safely to the benefit of both operators and the environment.  For 60 years, Stucchi has been proposing solutions worldwide for the most diverse range of applications, consistently guaranteeing the highest performance, utmost safety, and total protection of the environment.

The Importance of Stainless Steel Fittings for Oil & Gas Applications

The Oil & Gas industry relies upon heavy duty machinery and equipment which is subjected to extreme environmental conditions and intense mechanical stress. All components, including hydraulic quick couplings, must consider these factors to prevent accelerating premature wear or failure. Quick coupling failure in pressurized applications poses serious safety risks as well as costly damage and repairs.

Quick coupler failure could result in contamination of the circuit, causing damage to components and equipment.  Hydraulic fluid leaks may result in environmental contamination which creates costly clean-up efforts and potential fines.  Any result from quick coupling failure has the potential to seriously impact profitability.

Choosing reliable and durable quick couplings, designed to withstand the intense elements in the oil and gas industry is critical for efficient and profitable operations. As the Oil & Gas industry is continually exploring prohibitive environmental conditions, the use of stainless steel quick couplings is mandatory for reliable equipment performance. Not all stainless steel is created equally, however, and machinery supervisors and operators should be aware of the type of material their couplings are made of.

Stucchi Offers Stainless Steel Quick Coupler Solutions

Stucchi offers stainless steel quick couplers in 316 stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance to the ever-changing needs of the oil and gas industry.
