Many high flow skid steers have increased the available flow over the years to better suit a ¾” size hydraulic line and coupler, the most OEM supply couplers are still ½” in size to be compatible with the majority of the attachment market. Many OEMs have increased the supply tubing to ¾” but not the ½” coupler body size. This is often the cause of high operating temperatures and overheating. Increasing the body size of the auxiliary hydraulic coupler decreases the pressure loss in the coupler.
Another common problem is connect under pressure valve failure. An OEM equipped coupler can fail in a couple different ways, changing the residual pressure relief design often times provides the solution. When operating in thick brush or vegetation, accidental actuation of the relief is possible which exposes the drain line to system pressure. If the case drain is connected the system pressure spike on the drain causes it to be susceptible to seal failure from over pressure.
