How-to Video: Upgrade Your John Deere 333G Auxiliary Hydraulics

Stucchi offers hydraulic solutions to upgrade your skid steer auxiliary hydraulics to high flow, which is necessary to tackle demanding applications such as forestry and mulching. We offer a video demonstration showing our Saturn Block HD, a direct field replacement with 1” threaded, flat face couplers that takes your skid steer from standard to high flow. Upgrading to high flow auxiliary hydraulics provides many benefits that includes reducing hazards from high temperatures realizing significant gains in efficiency.

PROBLEMS WITH OEM INSTALLED STANDARD COUPLERS

OEM installed standard installed couplers are typically ½” or ¾” in size which suits many common attachments and applications. When operators change to an attachment such as a mulching head, brush saw or grapple, these attachments will demand higher hydraulic flow for increased power. The problem with OEM standard installed couplers is that they will not support high flow attachments, and overheating is a common problem encountered by operators.

Overheating when running high flow attachments can cause your equipment to shut down or in worst cases your skid steer or CTL can actually catch on fire. Upgrading your auxiliary hydraulic flow to high flow prevents overheating, mitigates risk of fire and increases equipment efficiency.

Upgrade to High Flow HydraulicsHOW TO UPGRADE YOUR JOHN DEERE 333G AUXILIARY HYDRAULICS

Upsizing your couplers to 1” increases hydraulic flow and efficiency by decreasing pressure drop. This video will show you how to upgrade your John Deere 333G compact track loader with the Stucchi skid steer auxiliary hydraulic kit which includes the Saturn Block HD. The Saturn Block HD includes:

  • Built-in relief valve to relieve pressure on the machine when making the connection
  • Upsized 1” couplers for better flow
  • Better locking mechanism for longer coupler life
  • Mounting bracket included, bolts right to skid steer arm with no modification needed

The following steps to install the Saturn Block HD bracket on a John Deere 333G are fairly simple and can be accomplished in about an hour.

First, remove the existing bracket and couplers:

  1. Start by removing the 6 bolts on the inside of the loader arm, to loosen the tubes going to the hydraulic connections.
  2. Remove the 4 bolts on the back of the loader arm that is holding the tubes and hoses in that location.
  3. Remove the 4 bolts on the front of the loader arm to remove the existing bracket.
  4. If your loader includes electrical connectors that you plan to re-use you can remove them from the old bracket also.
  5. Now you are ready to remove the existing couplers, which should be 3 connections to loosen at the tube.

Now you can install the Stucchi Saturn Block HD:

You’ll want to simply install the Saturn Block HD in reverse order, with the following steps:

  1. Install Saturn Block ports to the tubing
  2. Reinstall electrical connectors into the Saturn Block bracket
  3. Both Saturn Block bracket to the skid loader arm
  4. Reinstall bolts to the back of the loader arm
  5. Reinstall and tighten bolts on the inside of the loader arm
  6. Test and check for leakage

By upgrading your skid loader auxiliary hydraulics with the Stucchi Saturn Block HD, you will realize many benefits including:

  • Decrease in running temperature
  • Increase in fuel efficiency
  • Increase in recovery time
  • Increase in mulching head performance
  • Increased product life
  • Less quick disconnect failures

John Deere Auxiliary Hydraulic Kit

Several land management companies and mulching operators, specifically those using a compact track loader or a skid steer equipped with a mulching head or other attachments, experience shortcomings with the OEM equipped couplers. Stucchi offers a solution with auxiliary hydraulic kits and brand specific solutions such as John Deere auxiliary hydraulic kits.

SHORTCOMINGS WITH OEM EQUIPPED COUPLERS

Several issues can arise when changing out attachments such as a mulching head, bucket and grapple, brush saw or mower. Common shortcomings with OEM standard couplers include excessive heat build up. Many high flow skid steers have increased the available flow over the years to better suit a ¾” size hydraulic line and coupler, the most OEM supply couplers are still ½” in size to be compatible with the majority of the attachment market. Many OEMs have increased the supply tubing to ¾” but not the ½” coupler body size. This is often the cause of high operating temperatures and overheating. Increasing the body size of the auxiliary hydraulic coupler decreases the pressure loss in the coupler.

Another common problem is connect under pressure valve failure. An OEM equipped coupler can fail in a couple different ways, changing the residual pressure relief design often times provides the solution. Upgrading your auxiliary hydraulic couplers to threaded flat face or a manual relief lever like Stucchi’s Saturn Block helps to solve this problem and power your equipment and attachments without overheating.

When operating in thick brush or vegetation, accidental actuation of the relief is possible which exposes the drain line to system pressure. If the case drain is connected the system pressure spike on the drain causes it to be susceptible to seal failure from over pressure.

SOLUTION FOR JOHN DEERE AUXILIARY HYDRAULIC KITS

It has always been a challenge to attach implement hydraulic hoses and have them installed correctly and in a timely manner. Knowing exactly what type of auxiliary hydraulic kit is required for compatibility with your equipment and attachments can be difficult. Stucchi offers assistance when attaching implement hydraulic hoses where multiple connections are required for using harvesting equipment, large planters, seeders, mulching heads, etc.

OEM construction equipment often comes with Faster casted products and while there are several different styles based on specific OEM brands, the connect under pressure couplers are common between castings. Stucchi has developed an adapter to thread into the Faster casting with a ¾” male ORB threaded flat face coupler with connect under pressure capabilities with the VEP Series or VP Series.

The Stucchi Saturn Block helps to convert the John Deere 333G machine with a bracket to make clearance for the relief valve.
